The Canada-Ontario Housing Benefit (COHB) is a portable, income-tested subsidy that helps eligible low-income households in Ontario afford their rent. Unlike traditional rent-geared-to-income housing, COHB is tied to the household, not a specific unit, allowing recipients to use it anywhere in the province.
The County of Renfrew received an allocation of 45 COHB subsidy spots for the 2025–2026 period. These subsidy spots are being filled by individuals already on the Centralized Waitlist for Community Housing and the By-Name List (BNL) used for homelessness enumeration and registration. The COHB has been prioritized for applicants with the lowest income sources who have special priority status under the Housing Services Act related to domestic violence or human trafficking, as well as for individuals who have experienced homelessness and have been registered on the BNL within the past 12 months.
Please note that referrals are not being accepted at this time.
