How to Apply
There is a long waitlist for rent-geared-to-income (RGI) units in the County of Renfrew. You must apply for RGI housing to be placed on the waitlist. If you are eligible, your name will go on a waiting list when you apply. The waiting time will depend on the locations you picked on your application, the number of bedrooms you need and the turnover rate.
If you refuse an offer of housing your name will be removed from the waitlist.

Application eligibility
To apply for RGI units, you must meet the following requirements:
- You are at least 16 years old
- All members of the household are legal residents of Canada or refugee claimants
- No member of the household owes money to any community housing provider
- No member of the household is currently under a deportation, departure or exclusion order to leave Canada
- No member of the household has been convicted of an offence in relation to rent-geared-to-income assistance or found by a court of law or the Ontario Rental Housing Tribunal to have misrepresented their income for the purpose of rent-geared-to-income assistance
- You can live independently

There are many factors that impact the wait list; therefore, it is not possible to tell you where you are on the list or how long your wait time will be.
Most people need to find their own rental housing in the private market while they are on the wait list because the wait can be very long. We will contact you when there is a housing subsidy available.
Your wait time can depend on:
- When a subsidy becomes available
- Housing availability
- The town/area you have selected
- How many bedrooms you are eligible for
- If you need a ground floor or wheelchair accessible unit

- Your income and assets
